Overall, I did enjoy this and found myself getting through it quite quickly. The plot was interesting, and there was a bit more depth to the story than I initially expected.

However, something felt missing - it may have been the "romance" (and I use that term loosely), but to me, it felt more like obsession than romance. The relationship went from zero to a hundred almost instantly, which made it hard to fully connect with them.

Also, has anyone counted how many times babygirl is written in this? Cause it felt like a lot!

The book had a strong start that immediately grabbed my attention, and I had high hopes for where the story would go. However, the plot became substituted for spice and it just went on and on… Around the 60-70% mark, I seriously considered DNFing, but after seeing several reviews saying the ending was good, I decided to push through.

I'm glad I did because we finally got some more plot and it was the most gripped I had been the entire book. That said, as a whole, the book left me feeling a bit underwhelmed and I’m undecided if I want to continue into Book 2.

I did not like the MMC at all, and when he reappeared at the end I genuinely felt my eyes roll. Maybe it's a sign I shouldn't carry on lol.

I thought I was going to love this more than I did, but idk, something just felt off. I don’t know whether it was the insta love vibes, or I just didn’t like Austin in the beginning, but it just wasn’t what I thought.

It probably doesn’t help that I’m in between fantasy books at the moment so maybe that’s why it fell flat for me.

I loved the found family aspect of it all, that was probably the best part.

I knew what was going to happen, and I still cried at the ending. The only reason I didn’t rate it a 5 was because it was a novella.

I really hope we get to see Mak again in the next book, he’s such a lovely character.
