Syskonkärlek by Katarina von Bredow
5.0
I think intense is the only word I really have to describe this book. I understand that it's not a book for everyone, and I wouldn't argue with the ones rating this book with one star. I read this book for the first time when I was twelve years old. Back then I read almost everything I could get my hands on, including books whose target group most certainly didn't include twelve year old girls. Seven years later I wondered if this book would touch me just as much as an adult and it did.
I finished it in a few hours and felt a little empty at the end of it. People have to take into consideration, that this is von Bredow's debut novel and her writing (or at least the German version I read) is a little helpless and poorly written, but I could get along with the style.
The characters are not extremely loveable but I doubt that they were intended to be. The book is touching a topic that in most cultures is a taboo. It is thrilling, fascinating and still a bit odd to me. I couldn't put it down. I will not say that this is a good book. Or that it's a bad book. I will say that I found it intense and touching, but that mustn't be everyone's opinion on this. I completely understand if you did not feel comfortable reading it or if you didn't like it, but it think it's a book everyone should've tried reading. :)
