I liked the book. I think Paolini tackled the themes of grief well in this story, and also the ambitions of the other characters and how the mission played out in the story. It didn't leave me with any big emotions, but some of the struggle Alex goes through will stick with me a bit.

I felt this Tale of the Sun Eater novella gave a bit more depth to one of the side characters,  and one of my favorites.  He reminds me of Tyrion Lanister from the GoT. Love the mix of a clever strategic mind and sharp wit!🥰 ... however, now I am curious about a depth of loyalty... have things changed between our protagonist and his friend. Hmm...

This novella falls before book 4, I believe. This is Harlow's first reel battle with the Cielcin, as they liberate a planet. He meets a Baroness, who takes a shine to him... it won't do her any good... lol This also foreshadows the things Harlow may contemplate later in life, with more understanding for the choices others make compared to his own.

I liked the story showing the youngest 2 Harlows. Crispan has matured, and his character growth is nice to see. That was my favorite part of the story. No matter what his messages to Hadrian, I hope they have a moment to reconnect...

Another edition to The Sun Eater series that will propel us closer an ending. A few eww moments of gore... but I got through them, as I am invested now in the characters and seeing it to the end. I am really enjoying the series, looking forward to the next book. 😌

I am feeling a bit protective of our protagonist and storyteller. He's been through it... and then goes through more... and just when he's thinking , "That's it, they are gonna put me on ice..."  I'm off to seek book 6...🤣🤣🤣

Hadrian Harlow really goes through some things... I  cried more than once during one battle... an the tears would come again! So good
... so horrible, but so good. I think this was my favorite in the series so far.

It's a short story. A tiny glimpse of life with Caleb's dad.  I so hope to someday have a story about Vars before The Glade.
