“It is as if nature has erupted from my feet to oppose the audacity of mankind’s hubris to stand against it.”

― Elise Kova, A Deal with the Elf King

A Deal with the Elf King follows the story of Luella, a young herbal healer living in a small village on the border of the Elven Kingdom. Every generation, a young girl from Luella’s village is taken from her home to marry the Elf King and become the Human Queen. Luella had passed the age threshold for this union, so figured she was safe from this arrangement, however, when Eldas, the Elf King, finally shows up in the small village, she is taken away to the elf kingdom to become the new Human Queen.

I honestly adored the main protagonist in this story. She was feisty, witty, and incredible caring. I loved the enemies to lovers relationship and banter between her and Eldas. I especially loved that they were both as naive as each other when it came to romantic relationships, and they both learnt what love was together. It was wonderful romantic read that had my heart bursting from joy at times!

The elven world created was so rich and fantastical. I honestly just wanted to visit the kingdom, it sounded so magical., and the imagery of Eldas’ castle and the elven lands was spectacular. The magic system in this book was fantastic, and I adored Luella’s powers of healing, it made her character even more endearing.

Another aspect of the book that I truly loved was the witty banter between Luella and Eldas’ head of the guard, Rinni. They had an enemies to friends relationship that I enjoyed almost as much as the romantic relationship! Rinni’s character was protective and strong, but seeing the trust build between the two women was incredibly heartwarming.

Conclusion: Overall, I honestly enjoyed this book so much. The romance was full of angst (which every good enemies to lovers romance needs!). The friendships Luella created during her time in the elven kingdom were heartwarming and beautiful, and the character development of the main protagonist was a joy to read. I can’t wait to read it again.
