Life, Animated: A Story of Sidekicks, Heroes, and Autism by Ron Suskind

I fell in love with the whole Suskind family in this memoir of a dad and his son with autism. Because our family is Disney-obsessed, I could relate to every quote Owen recited and the emotions that followed. I recommend this to anyone who cares to see what it is like in a family where one member thinks in a different way than most.

I'm reading this to every grade in our elementary library. The older kids have read the original "Wonder", but this book covers #choosekind for every age. Appropriate now with the movie out in November. Appropriate always because reminders to be kind will always be necessary.

I admit - I hate reading "self-help" books from authors so much younger than me. How did they figure out life so young? At first the book didn't appeal to me. It was just common sense and crass. But as I gave it a chance, I realized there were some good reminders there. The way to not give a f*ck is to give a f*ck about the truly important things.

I don't know that I need to read this book over and over again, but I'm glad I gave it a chance.

I read PS I Still Love You first, so of course I had to go to the beginning. Like it's sequel, the YA read was cute. No one's life will change because of reading it. I can't tell you if the characters are realistic because I'm in my late 40s and my high school life was long, long, long ago. My own high school daughters are nothing like this, though.

I'm anxious to watch the movie to see if there is a little more substance. I hope so.
