The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling

The storyline and writing were brilliant, as expected.
I give it 4 stars instead of 5, but that is not a knock to Ms. Rowling but to her editors. I believe her editors let her down.
The book has a huge cast, and that is fine. Ms. Rowling qualified them with characteristics, making them unique, as well she should have. However, once we got to know the characters (about halfway through the book), they needn't continue to be so qualified. We know who they are by then, some even by speech. Much of the second half of the book could have been edited out because the words were simply character qualifiers.
As a reader, it was a bit insulting. It didn't take away from the story, just the experience.
