definitely more plot-focused than the previous novels and that worked just great, i loved everything that happened in here. the mysterious magical elements and the characters are always SO amazing and it’s only getting better. i’m not ready for the next book to be the last one tho.

main reason why i enjoyed this slightly less than book one is probably because it was set in the summer (i personally am not a fan of summer) therefore it lacked that “private school vibe” which i loooved.

fantastic sequel, the themes in here were much more interesting to me than those of book one (probably why i liked it better) and i could definitely tell Sanderson’s writing got much better here, especially when it comes to writing his characters, even if i do wish we got to see more of some characters who were basically neglected (Clubs, DOX???).
i love love love the politics and the whole mystery revolving around the mists and the well of ascension was really engaging, this world is so so interesting. and that ENDING. cannot wait to read the sequel!!

the vibes were so good, the story always intense and compelling and i loved the character dynamics so so much.
there are so many layers, so much foreshadowing and meaning i literally could not put the book down and when i eventually did after finishing the epilogue i wanted to go back and reread it immediately, which says a lot. also james and oliver. that’s all.

the characters and dynamics were so well written it blew my mind, this world and magic system are super interesting and it had the literal best fighting scenes i’ve ever read.
probably one of the best standalone fantasy books out there, i truly loved this story and how it progressed so much, and i couldn’t have thought of a better ending, wow

i really liked it, i enjoyed some parts way more than others but overall this was a great book. the first 50% of the book was absolutely amazing, then the dance started and it was kind of a struggle for me, and the aftermath was just alright.
don’t know if we’ll ever get a second, or even a third if needed, novel for Aegon lll — Aerys ll (very unlikely) but it does get published i’ll absolutely read it.

i loved the world building, the magic system, and how the plot developed; but i did not connect much with the characters, and i wished the side characters had been more “flashed out”, and i also can’t say that i was very invested in the story for the first half of the novel.
the latter 50% of the book however was amazing! it was much more interesting and i was truly pulled into the story.
i know this was one of Sanderson’s first published works so i wasn’t too surprised at the slightly weak writing, but the dialogue made me cringe several times, and the lack of female characters & a terrible forced straight romance (that was unbearable for me and had absolutely ZERO chemistry + why is a 21yo dude not leaving this 16yo girl alone???) bothered me.
don’t know if i’ll be reading the sequels of this specific series but i’ll definitely be checking out Brandon Sanderson’s other books.
