this book is just so beautifully done. i’d agree with other reviewers that it’s a little bit slow to start, but once you get into it, you’re in it. tan does such a fantastic job of being empathetic to all of her characters. a great read for those with maybe complex or fraught relationships with their mothers, without feeling like it’s placing any blame, or trying to be universal, or being preachy. the only reason why it’s not a 5 star read for me is because of the slower start.
