I just… wish I hadn’t wasted my time with this one. Everything, literally everything… could have been avoided if the characters just told the FMC what was going on. The plot really doesn’t make much sense, too many holes in the magic system and random loopholes and surprise “oh but magic actually works like this!” moments.

Less of a romance/mystery, more of a monologue about mom-guilt. I kept reading because I wanted to know the outcome of the mystery, but it was a lot of inner monologue about mom-guilt. Just a lot.

A spooky read, shorter story, engaging plot - not a masterpiece but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! I wanted the ending to be a little more complex and I felt like it ended too fast. I loved the main character, Olivia, and it was extra spooky to experience the communication barrier that the characters faced. Also the audio book is fabulous and made it extra spooky but there are illustrations that feel important to understanding the plot so I would recommend checking out the book or ebook to see those disbursed throughout.
