Death of a Pirate King by Josh Lanyon
the mystery was elements were good. the time jump was needed. jake didn’t grovel but he seems to be getting better? idk the next book should give me answers.
The Hell You Say by Josh Lanyon
this was best book as far as mystery is concerned. i will say though adrien really does needs to stay out of police business. i like him and obviously root for him but the usually is in the wrong for acting like a cop.
anyway jake… i hate him. he hates himself sure got it but why drag adrien into his self hatred?he assaulted him! like dude you are the one with a pregnant fiancé!!!! why are you mad at him??? you chased! you called him baby! you initiated sex! you jake! i know internalized homophobia can get just as aggressive as plain homophobia. i just don’t want the end goal guy to be… this!
i also hate the casually homophobic and transphobic language used here and previous books. i know it’s if it’s time but it’s still uncomfortable.

A Dangerous Thing by Josh Lanyon
jake is worse than sam. at least sam wasn’t dealing with internalized homophobia. then again this was 2000s. idk i don’t like jake. like jason i want better for him.
adrien is not a cop or fbi agent so i’m worried most of the time. the mystery was interesting. im not into mysteries that don’t have fantasy element but josh writes characters i like so it works for me.
the indigenous cultural elements to this story being labeled ghost stories and legends… idk it gave white. im not american or indigenous to na so i can’t really much imput in that regard.
edit: the drinking and driving??????? happens so much in this series! scary stuff!

Fatal Shadows by Josh Lanyon
the mystery was predictable but was interesting to follow. the romance confusing esp the ending. he said baby out of no where and i was like huh???? i thought he had internalized homophobia and didn’t like being with men? only in a bdsm/sexual way but not relationships? anyway i’ll try the next one.
oh and this was def written when i was in high school bec everyone and i mean everyone is using the f word!

Snowball in Hell by Josh Lanyon
this was insta love at its finest. the mystery was meh. i don’t think old timey mysteries are my thing. so yeah meh.
The Movie-Town Murders by Josh Lanyon
this… this felt like incomplete story…
jason and sam relationship personally doesn’t work. i know sam is trying but when all we get is them having sex and some conversation for me i don’t see fuss. there so much happening in this series so i guess there is no time for the building of the romance. we only get the heated fighting type convos so all i get is the bad and the sex and some tiny moments of sam caring.
usually in this series we get some conclusion to the case but this one kind of didn’t. i know the over arching plot is important but this stalking thing has taken too long and i’m tired. idk i’ll read the next book when it comes out but i’m not holding my breath.

The Monuments Men Murders by Josh Lanyon
jason was wrong but sam is made of ice so uhm i still rooted for jason. i get it. sam is emotionally constipated but it’s been almost a year. a YEAR! get it together!
the mystery as well was v simple. i want sam and jason to work together again with something that has a bit more meat on it. hopefully the next book.

The Magician Murders by Josh Lanyon
okay sam was nicer here buuuuuut jason could do better than this guy for sure.
the ending to mystery was a bit too simple. so far i feel like the first book had the most interesting premise. even though i figured out the person in the first book and didn’t in this book the first books investigation process was more interesting to follow.
i like jason so following him in general has been great. even when he is in the wrong(like dude you are injured!!!! sleep! relax! heal!) i still root for him.

The Monet Murders by Josh Lanyon
still don’t see what joson sees in sam. i was actively rooting for him to find someone else.
anyway this was entertaining even if the ending of mystery was predictable.

The Mermaid Murders by Josh Lanyon
idk why jason likes sam when sam is clearly an asshole. anyway i’m not mystery girl but i like josh and following him is entertaining.
