Did not finish book. Stopped at 17%.
It's such a smooth surface my mind can't get any purchase on the story or what's going on, it's all so featureless.

About as good as Urusla LeGuin's work, but far less known. Really worth reading.

It's a bizarre book, bizarrely paced, half epistolary and half first person memoir. All tied up in uncomfortable Prussian scientism, and rather dark philosophically.

Some pretty grotesque sexuality, in ways that did not serve the story (and were more general than a single character) and I didn't find the ending was enough of a payoff. The serial killer sub-plot seemed unneeded to tell the story, too.
