3.9 btw puta do goodreads
foda-se. bro when i first read this i was fresh 15 years old and it was like, the best, most insane shit i had ever read, super well written, shocked me that apparently escreve-se pixa e não piça !?!?!? mas enfim... despite it being extremely good satire and a fantastic exploration of what it's like to live so unattached with others and with a permanent state of depersonalization and dissociation, the torture scenes just fucking DRAG. like how many times am i gonna have to read about him killing women in the same four ways? the gore works most of the times, but at the end i'm just begging him to shut up about tits and cunts and whatever. the climax where it switches from first person to third person is incredible and honestly i wish we could have seen more of that instead of about 4 torture scenes that aren't needed at all. the movie was better! there i fucking said it!
definitely still would recommend reading it because i feel like it's very interesting and a good book, but if someone had to choose between this and the adaptation, please for the love of christ watch the movie.
i do have to say, there were writing decisions here that i became very aware had influenced my own writing: the stream of consciousness thing i include pretty much in anything i write, for example, and the usage of the present tense, as well as very long sentences connected and repeated, and short sentences at the end of these. i found that pretty sick ngl!
