This is magical realism at its finest. While there are horrifying crimes being solved and committed, it’s the ghosts that provide much of the comedic relief to an otherwise dark storyline. The way this novel weaves together two stories from two time periods all while honoring beautiful storytelling and whimsical prose, the reader drifts away to Ireland and is right there with the larger-than-life characters, clenching fists to try to solve the mysteries. I may have found a new favorite author. To have me fall in love with both the prose and the characters is a tough sell for me, but this novel did it.
