ok so i preferred the ending in the show to the ending in the book. the gap between connell finding out he got into the new york school and marianne telling him he should go felt more natural. and since in the book it was tied with an argument, it almost felt like she said it out of anger

that being said i think the book gave the relationship more nuance and intelligence. the show version depicts it as just a lustful, visceral attraction while in the book you’re shown why they really like each other

lastly here’s my unpopular opinion: while i was entertained by their relationship in both depictions, i dont think it was at all realistic or healthy. i dont think they’re soulmates just because they’re codependent. idk its hard, i want to root for them but something is just off
