I watched the show first and fell in love with the characters. Though this book is a completely separate entity it feels, the characters remain true in their funny, sarcastic, but loving manners. I equally fell in love with the origin of the show and am 100% recommending it to anyone looking for a fun period piece with some fantasy elements.

“I was so wrong […] about whether my story could ever be happy.”
I’m bawling!!! I loved Eli and Rue and honestly the rest of the cast too
except Florence, you know what you did lmao.
Though there heavy topics throughout the book, it never felt weighed down by them. Ali was able to so perfectly balance the romance with the more hard hitting stuff. Honestly I would consider this some of her best writing to date.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 26%.
Audiobook: I simply could not understand why the narrator would use an accent for the names but not while the characters were speaking. I was driving me crazy. Also the plot wasn’t as interesting, personally, as the summary made it seem.
