I really wanted to love this but it just didn’t feel like horror to me. Some parts were very well done and the explanation of grief was very moving but otherwise this just fell a little flat for me.

I couldn’t read this after she described laying in wet leaves as the leaves licking her up and down. What the fuck. You’re a feminist writer.

It’s not that it was bad but I guessed most of it which was a little dull. It also followed a spectacularly better book so I it’s defence it had an uphill climb

This gets a stat deducted because it is very much part of the Beast Charmer series and half the time I had no idea what was going on. What saves it is a very well written plot and characters but honestly, you can’t read this and enjoy it to its full potential without having read the other books especially when there are 1903847483 references to previous events and characters and no explanation as if we are already to know

I didn’t hate this book but seriously, some writers need decent editors and that’s severely lacking across a lot of fantasy at present. This book was just all over the place. It wasn’t a terrible book but was almost written back to front which made following along incredibly difficult. The world building was poor and very little character development so the character deaths meant nothing
