I had a hard time getting into the book, partly because the character interactions felt like the murder mystery was secondary, like it was just something to gossip about without learning anything new.
It’s not often I read a book and immediately wonder when I’m going to read it again, but this was so engaging. I read it within a day, which is a lot faster than I usually read. Dee and Grasshopper were an excellent pairing. And I was repeatedly kept on my toes.
I bounced at the phrase “limp dick” but tbf I was already considering giving up because I couldn’t tell which character was speaking. The narrator didn’t use separate voices or give a pause between pov shifts.
I don’t know how to describe how I felt about this read. I enjoyed it. I was surprised by how delightful it was, despite some difficult feelings mixed in.
