⭐️⭐️⭐️ I love Tangled. Christina Lauren did their best to create the same magic here as the movie, but tbh nothing can compare. But, if you can get past the ridiculous plot (a 22 year old who has never used the internet and lives under her parents’ thumbs), this is an easy read. Christina Lauren write tension so well and Ren reminded me of a YA version of Amy Adams in Enchanted. Ultimately the pace was a bit too slow for me and the ending fell flat. It was just okay.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ THIS was one of the most read books of 2024? What am I missing??

First of all, I have read this story before (Hunger Games, TOG). So for such an unoriginal, generic story, why is it almost 500 pages!!? It took WAY too long (80%) to get interesting. Also, I will say it again—this is NOT enemies to lovers!!!!!!!!!!! If you want them to be ‘enemies’, show it!! I am so sick of reading romantasy books with telling and minimal showing. And if you are going to give us a slow burn, give us one with yearning and pining FFS! And as a genre can we please stop writing oblivious, annoying, mouthy FMCs who everyone fawns over? 😤 End of rant. I do plan to read the sequel (lol after all of that) and think it had a cool twist, but overall, I did not find this intriguing and cannot understand the hype.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ This book was unbelievably beautiful. I listened to the audiobook and Gawande is an excellent and compelling narrator. The storyline about his father was so moving and made me cry. This book likely really hit home for me (and was recommended by my therapist 😇) because I am a caregiver for my dad, who has Alzheimer’s. There were so many important takeaways for me in this book. I do think it got a bit redundant and bogged down by case studies/medical jargon from elderly patients, but these did serve to really get his point across. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially us elder millennials in the ‘sandwich generation’ who are caring for children and also transitioning to caring for parents.
