This is not a review, this is more like me sharing my deep feelings about this book.
This is the best book I've ever read. I can't emphasize enough how this book changed my perspective to fantasy books. Yes, there's a lot of fantasy books out there that I enjoyed and loved. But no book did it like The Final Empire. This is my first book of Brandon Sanderson and I regret nothing.
To be very honest, I was so scared to start this because I thought I might end up disliking it. I've seen a lot of people recommending Mistborn and I find them very persuasive. I thought that I should give it a try because it really sounds very interesting. Yet, I'm scared that it was just being overhyped by people. Turns out I'm wrong.
Lord Ruler! THIS IS AN AMAZING BOOK, Y'ALL. And I know, a lot of you probably knew that already. But listen, I almost wanted to drop reading this book. SO FUCKING GLAD I CONTINUED. I have a rollercoaster relationship with the first quarter of the book. I find it interesting - then I find it so slow - I love how dark but hopeful it is - but then I find it very much confusing. It started with Kelsier fighting the hazekillers, I can't imagine how the fight is happening. I can't picture it in my mind, I just continued to read words while thinking "I'll survive this. Don't give up now," but I'm actually feeling like maybe this is not for me. Again, I was wrong.
The magic system, as we all know, is unique and diverse that you really need to set your mind into it to be able to get it. I love complex things, and I love it more when I finally get what's happening! This is me saying that I'm dumb but smart at the same time. No, I'm kidding. But one thing for sure is that Brandon is a GENIUS. Sure, maybe not a lot of people appreciates his magic system but whatever. Maybe it's just their comprehension issuesã…¡ please, don't hate me.
The political intrigue is the perfect amount for me. I have read a book that is very heavy on politics and it's hard for me to follow. But in The Final Empire, it's just enough to keep me being interested. I like fictional political intrigue, not real life political intrigue. Though of course, there's still a lot of real life moments that are happening in this book. Including the skaa struggling and the government (and nobles) enjoying their lives. It's a mix of both real life and fantasy, actually. Just perfect. Chef's kiss.
And oh my god, that PLOT TWIST. It blew me away so much that I had to stop reading. I screamed, I laughed, I whooped, I hypverventilated, and I cried. All of these in just ONE scene. That moment I already realized, I'm in. I'm in to this rabbit hole, forever. Probably some people are not as super amazed by the plot twist as me (because they said they already figured out what's happening lol), but I'm not as good as them at spotting hints so I was so fucking hyped when THAT scene happened.
It was a freaking blast!!! Everything is well crafted, from the magic system to the world building. The characters are forever gonna be iconic and so lovable. Every single characters are soooooo alive. They're so important to me. Kelsier's crew is no doubt, the best group of people I've come across.
1000/10!!!

Dragging at first, but then it gets better maybe on about 3/4 of the book. Definitely funny and ridiculous. Missed Kel so much. Nonetheless, still a great book. The idea of being able to visit another dimension is so cool. There's so much mystery that I kind of hate that it didn't continue there lol but this is a novella so I understand. Would love to see more of the mysteries being uncovered.
