The world building was amazing!! Absolutely fantastic! I mean a world of total darkness because the stars, the moons and the sun are locked away?? That is so cool.
And the writing fit that perfectly. It was beautiful and it read a bit like a fairytale.
Frankly all of it read like a fairytale, which fit the world and the plot great.
However the characters actions were a bit confusing, especially at the beginning. The MCs getting to know each other and teaming up happened /very/ fast, so fast it took me by surprise. But they were still very cute.

Thank you to the author and NetGalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed here are my own.
I loved Us, Et Cetera so much I had to give this one a try even though it's dark academia which I don't usually enjoy. But I very much enjoyed this one!
I also read it in one sitting which for me means a) I had a great time, couldn't put it down and b) I can now (a day later) barely remember anything about it.
I did enjoy the characters and the plot. The romance was cute and aching. But mostly the writing was so pretty!!
And here's a lil list of my favourite quotes because I have feelings about them, beware spoilers obviously.
-"But for some reason, I want to tell him. I want to tell him all my secrets."
-"These are dangerous thoughts, I tell myself sternly. He’s a professor, and I’m a student. I shouldn’t think of touching him. Of wanting to be alone with him. Of hearing him in my dreams."
-"“Aren’t you afraid of me?” […] “I am,” I breathe, caught off guard by my own honesty. “I’m terrified of you.” […] “Then why are you still here, Jonathan?”"
-"“That no matter how much I try to resist, I’m unable to keep myself from you? That the instant our eyes met in the theater, I saw our connection? Your heart called out to me, all ten thousand broken shards of it. How could I not answer when suddenly, in a room full of people, I could hear only you?”"
-"“Keep your eyes open,” he says unexpectedly. “I want you to see me.” For a moment , I’m at a loss for words. He wants me to see him? Oh, Dacian, how could I possibly see anyone else?"
-"In this world of shadows, Dacian is my anchor. If he disappears, I will become unmoored. Lost in the darkness without the light of his eyes to guide me, I may never find myself again."
Also gonna be honest the more I think about it the funnier the premise is though, huge spoiler:"100 years after Dracula was betrayed by Jonathan Harker he falls in love with another Jonathan", I also had to really laugh at the Dracula reveal I don't know why.

The Wayward Children books are consistantly enjoyable reads. They're not perfect but when I need a quick little read in between they are great, including this one.

I've played and loved the game so when I saw there was a comic I had to request it! And the art is stunning and it perfectly fits the game even if the pages sometimes feel overcrowded.
However the characters fell a bit flat and the story didn't really add anything new that's not in the game. It was very fast-pasted and I think a couple of pages more here and there to expand on the characters or world would have been great.
Given the fact that it is such a quick read I still had a fun time and will check out future volumes.

Thank you to the author and MTMC Tours for providing me with an ARC.
This book is near perfection, I love both Saba and Zek so much.
Sabas rage and self- hatred were so raw and his journey to self-acceptance even more rewarding for that.
And Zek is just such a sweetie. Love myself a gentle giant.
Also shaving the others beard is one of the most underrated things ever.
I plot was good but I would have loved to spend even more time with these two and their tension. Especially given that the main romancing part happened over two days, an extra day or two would have been great.
My main issue was the epilogue (I'm just gonna ignore that that was actually part of the book).
First of all what was that Zek?? Who thought that was a good idea? Who signed off on that?? That could have gotten quite a lot of people killed? It just seemed really weird.
And then the sex scene read like the author had quite a couple of more scenes planned, for whatever reason didn't and instead just put it all into a single one. There was just way too much going on there.

This was a silly little book. I did enjoy my time with it but I have some complaints.
Shoestring Theory is easy to read and rather fast paced so you definitely don't get bored.
While it does touch on some in theory darker topics (suicide, invasion, murder etc) it was written in a very light hearted way with jokes and quirky dialogue so I couldn't take those that seriously. So I don't mind it being marketed as cozy (the comp to L&L however is not good).
The world-building is fine for a fantasy lite, that is you get the gist but for me it could have been a bit more in depth.
The characters are also fine, likeable but also a bit underdeveloped. Especially everyone who isn't Cyril.
Now the plot I did enjoy but I did see it coming and that for the sole reason that vibe that Cyril isn't the most intelligent person and I therefore did not believe him. Which I really don't think was intended.
As others pointed out the ending, especially Cyril and Eurfates reuniting, felt very rushed, to the point where the "and they lived happily ever after" felt a bit forced. Cute, but I would have liked more hurt.
