Friday I'm in Love by Camryn Garrett

I loved the concept of this book. This is a YA book and it read very YA. Mahalia was a bit insufferable at times, but I had to remind myself that she was a 16 year old teenager. Overall, I liked the idea a bit more than the execution, but it was still worth reading.

Oh I loved this one π«ΆπΌ
A Sapphic romance where they co-coach a basketball team? One of our main characters is lesbian while the other is trying to figure it out. There's a ton of family. Mental health rep! Yeah I adored this one.

This cover is so fun and gorgeous and perfectly reflects the book!
Trinidad is a single mom who is looking for the stability to give her twin teenagers the best life possible. She has put her needs, sexuality, and fun aside to be a responsible adult and mother. That is until her sons take matters into their own hands and surpise/force her to go on a holiday weekend to go to a Carnival, where their mentor also happens to be. π I love how this painted Trinity as a mom and a woman!!
This was just such a fun read. Cunningham's descriptions of the place and the festivities brought it all to life and made me want to be there!! This was spicy, funny, and yet still included topics around growing up, relationships, communication, and mental health.
Tropes:
- Single mom
- Age gap
- Forced proximity
- Found family

Teenage me would have appreciated this book so much. Adult me still loved it. π

A sweet, slow burn romance between a fitness influencer and a writer.
This is definitely inspired by well loved Peloton athletes, but I loved it. I love that it showed how social media can be managed and that the people we see online are ultimately HUMAN. Jo's struggles around anxiety were so raw and insightful. The mental health representation and the nuggets of "You are not alone" was so wonderfully written. I love anyone willing to break any negative stigma around mental health, therapy, and medication.
For the romance, oh I thought I was going to be unhappy with Silas, but he makes up for it. Miscommunication isn't my favorite trope, but I understood that he respected Jo's space.
The way they described spin made me want to go to a class even though i know how hard they are. π It was fun and motivating. I loved that this story didn't focus on weight loss or a certain body type. Jo is STRONG and the several types of people and body types taking the classes are mentioned more than once. I appreciated that.
Overall, I really enjoyed this and recommend!!

First of all, the cover is gorgeous! π
I love the concept and enjoyed the story. I think the pacing could have been edited a bit better. It had its slow moments in the beginning and middle, but then a lot happened in the end, and it ended rather quickly.
A sapphic angel & demon fantasy was totally worth the read. β€οΈ

This is an emotional novel that follows a gay black man's life. It reads like a memoir and takes us through his childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. It highlights his complicated relationship with his parents, his sexuality, and even his community.
Emotional is the only way I can describe this book. Absolutely emotional.
I did listen to the audiobook (slightly sped up) and really enjoyed it!
Admittedly, I have not read the companion novel to this one, Don't Cry For Me. I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything, but I also can't say whether or not reading it will affect your view of this novel.
Thank you NetGalley and HarperAudio for the ALC. All thoughts are my own.

This is a very raw and emotional second chance romance. I think it's realistic in the messiness that is our emotions and thoughts and being flawed humans overall. That being said, it wasn't my favorite. π«£
I wanted to love it, but the miscommunication six/seven years later was driving me crazy. I understood that the younger version was less mature, but I was frustrated with the present-day characters. I was especially irritated with Meena. She was so stubborn and ignored all of the obvious signs. Then, she still takes a while to own up to her own flaws and mistaken way of thinking. The way she told Nikhil about Shake was also so messed up. I understand that she's a flawed, realistic FMC, but I kept thinking Nikhil deserved better.
