Is it wrong that I love watching characters suffer when they're totally out of their element?
Mmm, maybe.
Will that stop me from enjoying their suffering?
Yeah, probably not.
And our two main leads were DEFINITELY out of their element for the majority of this book.
From awkward texting, to mini-golf struggles, to some feverish behavior paired with an unexpected sleepover (no spoilers here ๐ค), to a surprise guest, to horseback-riding mishaps, and everything in between...this story was full of twists and turns!
And as with most romances, there were the usual: "oh my gosh, NO!" and "whyyyyy?" moments, but don't worry! Zoey and Gavin did get their happy ending, which felt longgggg overdue since they spent so much time trying to keep their feelings a secret from each other.
As far as content goes: Most of the suggestive material/innuendos were pretty minor, but became more heated at times. No language that I can remember. There was no on-page sex, but it was talked about/implied between different characters. I don't want to give any spoilers, but the "surprise guest" might be a trope that some readers could be bothered by (personally, it's not my favorite trope, but I could understand how it helped with certain aspects of the overall plot as well as Gavin and Zoeyโs character development). Also, Zoey experiences grief from her mom's death that happened from an accident when she was in high school. This wasn't triggering for me, but it could be for others. As for the age-gap situation: In my own life, Iโm very familiar with age gaps. I have relatives and friends that are/were in relationships with 10+ years between them...so I wasnโt really bothered by the age gap that Zoey and Gavin had. However, their concern about the age gap between them felt very repetitive (up until almost the very end) and thatโs what made the whole age-gap thing feel โwrong.โ I would describe the book as a mild "PG-13 romance movie."
I really loved the funny parts. I swooned over the tender moments. And the time spent with Gavin's family was super sweet! Andddd, of course, it was great seeing characters from the first book!! Abby and Zane were even CUTER in this one (even if they were supposed to be "that annoying couple").
I can't wait to read Delilah and Thayden's story next, followed by the rest of this cute romcom series!!

Okay, this was way too cute!! In all honesty, there were a few times when I was worried that maybe I'd end up feeling disappointed because of how excited I was to read it...and how much I like the book starting out. Once I finished it, however, I decided that I really liked it! Truly.
All right, I normally don't do this, but I noticed a few reviewers who quite a bit of negative thing to say about Abby and how she handled herself/situations in the book. And since every reader is entitled to their opinion, I want to share my thoughts about Abby's behavior and personality. My takeaway isn't necessarily spoiler-ish, but I'm putting it within the spoiler tags because it issss a little long and everyone might not want to read through it. First off, her bullying experience in high school was absolutely horrible. Maybe the "mean girls" trope seems overused, but there are mean girls out there. Even though the book takes place years after the bullying, insecurities/fears can hit at any point. Did Abby have immature moments? Yes. Was she selfish at times? Yes. Were some of her actions more on the irrational side? Yes. But she was HUMAN. We all have those same struggles. No one is perfect. And I honestly feel like Abby relied on her sarcastic/carefree/outgoing attitude to help fight her insecurities. So, maybe she just seemed like an annoying brat to some...but I saw her as a woman who was still hurting, even though she tried her best to avoid those feelings. All that to say, I did NOT hate Abby lol.
Moving onto the romanticccccc side of the book (which, is like my favorite part, of course), Zane and Abby were opposites in almost every way...and when the more-reserved character falls for the fun-loving character, I just can't help myself! I swoon like there's no tomorrow! Though Zane seemed like a grumpy player at first, he most definitely was nottttt; and I loved watching him open up more to Abby as he started to have feelings for her. They were an adorable/quirky couple for sure, one that I ship AND approve of. ๐๐
As far as content goes: Any suggestive material/innuendos were pretty minor, so no worries there. No language that I can remember. Side characters did drink, I can't remember if the main characters did. There was no on-page sex, but it was talked about/implied between different characters , and innuendos. Abby was naked during one point of the book (not in a sexual way, it was meant to be humorous). However, there wasn't really any detailed description. Abby getting bullied in the past might be triggering for some (feel free to reach out to me if you'd like the specific details) but it wasn't triggering for me. Also, Zane experiences grief from his mom's death that happened from an accident when he was in high school. Again, that wasn't triggering for me, but it could be for others. I would describe the book as a mild "PG-13 romance movie."
Last but not least, I want to mention Abby's gal-pals! I love seeing fun friendships in stories, and it was so sweet to see how the girls supported/encouraged each other. I can't wait to read each of their books!
Also, all of my epilogue lovers! This book does have one, but it's more focused on tying in the next book (Zoey's book, which is perfectly fine). HOWEVER, there is a FREE bonus scene you can download (the link is at the end of the book) about Zane and Abby that has those epilogue vibes. Spoiler alert: IT'S CUTE.
The only thing I'll add to this very long review (sorry lol), is that you should read the book. Seriously. ๐

Can I just say that I love Gracie's writing style? It's so fun, natural, and relatable as HECK! I fangirled so hard over Eye of the Beholder (book one of the Stone Springs Series), and I just KNEW that I'd adore this book as well! I remember loving Lydia in Mina and Cohen's book, and I really wanted her to get her own bookโAND I'M SO GLAD IT HAPPENED!
I love penpal romances, especiallyyyyy when they have mistaken identity elements thrown in there too! Oh, and a broody but sensitive guy...WHO'S FRENCH?! Um, yes PUH-LEASE! I want a Noel, y'all!! Also, their meet-cute (even though they technically knew each other already)? Adorableeee!!
I think I've mentioned this in another review, but I think it's so fun/interesting when a book takes place in a different country...plus, I loveeeeee Paris lol. I'm that hopeless romantic who's never been but has wanted to go since I was like, eight! This book made me love Paris even more lolll. ๐๐
As far as content goes: I honestly don't remember any language whatsoever. The biggest content warning would be Marcus, Lydia's classmate who acts/talks (stalking/bullying) in a totally inappropriate manner (the details aren't very descriptive, but you definitely get the idea). This whole situation wasn't triggering for me, but it could be for other readers...just know that it DOES get resolved. Noel's "charity work" (think Robin Hood/Aladdin ๐) played a big part in the story. Drugs, guns, and knives are mentioned (but none of them are actually used). Lydia did end up getting a little drunk, but since she was in Paris...it wasn't technically illegal. I'm not sure if there was anything else, lol. Overall, I would still call the book a clean read!!
I've decided that Gracie Ruth Mitchell is one of my favorite authors, y'all. This is the third book I've read from her and it will NOT be my last. I know I can always expect quirky characters, great tropes, and SWOONYYYY KISSES!!
I truly didn't want the story to end, BUT...there was an epilogue, and that helped a lottttt. ANDDDDD I think I know who book three will be about, so I am very excited for that!
Closing thought? This book better be on your TBR! ๐๐

I was totally obsessed with the chemistry between Jessie and Drew! Hate-to-love mixed with forced proximity and a dash of fake dating? HOW COULD I NOT BE OBSESSED?! Oh, and their prank war? Loved. It.
So funny! So cute! So relatable! Jessie's collection of tacky/adorable belongings? Drew's need to be the "go-to" person? I really enjoyed the fun/playful side of their personalities/relationship, as well as the deeper/sensitive side. And I adored Cooper in The Off Limits Rule, BUT: Drew is the man, lol. Seriously. He is PERFECT book boyfriend material. I was swooning left and right, y'all.
As far as content goes: Mild language. There was no on-page sex, but it was definitely talked about and implied along with multiple make-out scenes (at least one of those scenes did involve Drew shirtless), and innuendos. Jessie was naked during one point of the book...and even though it was not in a sexual way (she was taking a shower), the scene was from Drew's POV. However, there wasn't really any detailed description. I'm not going to list every single thing that went on in the book (although, you can message me if you'd like to know), but just like with The Off Limits Rule, I would definitely describe the book as a "PG-13 romance movie."
*My rating is usually lower when a book isn't "clean" like it was promoted (3 stars, instead of 4 or 5 stars), but I'm not doing that with this book because the author made it very clear ahead of time that this was a "steamy clean/closed-door" romance book...and I appreciate her honesty, as well as her desire to provide a spicier option for readers who want a little more than "Hallmark" but not something completely explicit.*
This book was a laugh-out-loud, must-read if you're looking for a happy, super cute closed-door/steamy clean romance!
The last line was everything, by the way. Just so y'all know. ๐

Y'all, Summer's romcoms are always fluffy and witty...which is justttt how I like them!! And even though I adored the first book of The Wedding Business Series (If It's Perfect: A Romantic Comedy, aka Hope's book)โwhich, as a fellow type one, how could I not?โI actually enjoyed Haley's book more. ๐๐ฑ
So, why was that? Well...honestly? This book was just so MUCH FUN! Not that Hope's book wasn't, but this was just a different kinddddd of fun. The pranks were crazy in a totally Haley-way; and while that wasn't the most mature route to handle everything, her antics (along with her accomplices) were goldennn. Maybe some of the book was a little over-the-top, BUT THAT'S ONE OF THE BEST PARTS ABOUT ROMCOMS!
I did feel bad for Austin though, lol. Despite his sneakiness in the beginning, and his original decision of not coming clean to Haley, he really was a sweet guy. I know I was definitely swooning. ๐ Likeeeee, during a certain "car scene." Actually, a couple of different "car scenes," now that I think about it. ๐ค
Oh, and that ending (as well as the epilogue) was ADORABLE! I loved them both! *chef's kiss*
As far as content goes: Clean!! Any suggestive material was extremelyyyy minor, so no worries there. Dishonesty was part of the plot, and Haley's mom had some relationship struggles that were talked about...but I wasn't bothered by either of those aspects.
So, I'm going to end this review by saying that I just really loved the book. I enjoyed Haley's relationships with her sister and friends (totallyyyy spot-on, because all I could think about was me and my sisters lolll). The chemistry between Haley and Austin was TOO CUTE (all their little run-ins were just perfecttt). And even though I didn't always feel the hate-to-love vibes, they wereeee more present at certain times...and I was definitelyyyy a fan of them (HOW COULD I NOT BE?!). ๐๐

If you follow me on Instagram, then you probably know that this book has been on my TBR for quite some time now...and you probably also know that I'm obsessed with fake relationship romances.
I remember when I first read about Daria and Preston in Courtside Crush, and I just thought that they were good characters...well, I was wrong. They were GREAT characters!! This book really made me fall in love with them individually andddd as a couple! ๐ ๐ ๐
Daria's crush on Preston was just sooooo innocent/sweet, and it was easy to see why she liked him so much...even when he was oblivious at times. ๐ BUT OH MY GOSH did he have me swooning! Seriously, he was a great combo of confident and thoughtful. He honestly reminded me a lot of Cohen from Eye of the Beholder by Gracie Ruth Mitchell...so, it's no surprise that I loveddddd him!!
As far as content goes: I honestly don't remember any language whatsoever; and if there were any suggestive comments (which I also can't remember lol), they were veryyy minor. So, no worries if you're looking for a clean read!
Despite it being "fake," Daria and Preston's relationship was ADORABLE. They were literally couple goals, y'all. The teasing, the flirting...THAT FIRST KISS?! I had alllll the feels.
That being said, if you're looking for a cute breezy fake dating/best friend's brother sports romance...you need to read this one ASAP!!!

Seeing as this is the sequel to The Heir, I'm not going to say too much (which is hard, because I talk a lot) about the book because of those sneaky little things called SPOILERS. I will say, however, that I loved Shattered Heir even MORE than the first book! It picked up right where The Heir left off, which was SO niceโI'm glad there wasn't any kind of major time skip between the books. But. Y'all. Shad not having his soul and watching Emma suffer while trying to save him was just straight up heart-wrenching. I could feel her pain throughout the story as she clung to whatever hope she had left. ๐ญ๐ญ
And maybe this wrong, but I loved how Cadian's role in the book complicated things. Even though he's considered the "bad guy," it was interesting to see how he complicated Emma's plans in a way she wasn't necessarily expecting. Cadian just had me feeling TORN, y'all! His character had such a dark backstory that brokeeee my heart, but I also know that he handled a lot of things wrong. Dangggg, this is so hard to do without spoilers, lol! Just know that Cadian is a very complex character, and I would really love for him to have some kind of redemption.
If you thought I was going to write this review and NOT mention my boy, Ryker...you're crazy. Although in some ways it felt like Ryker took a backseat in the book, there DEFINITELY was a lot of MAJOR stuff that happened involving him (and Emma, of course). Stuff that I can't tell you because...SPOILERS. Sighs. Let's just say that I'm still #TeamRyker. I do love Shad though, and Cade managed to snag my attention, but it's Ryker. He's my main dude, lol. Swooning was never optional.
As far as content goes: No language! Intimate/passionate moments diddddd occur, the romance/attraction between the characters was definitely strong, and there was more making out in this book compared to the first book...but nothing beyond that (well, except for a guyโI refuseeee to say whoโtaking his shirt off). Grief, anxiety, depression, bitterness, and anger are some of the major feelings that are experienced and talked about. I personally wasn't triggered by any of this, but other readers might be...so please take that into consideration. There was a darker side to the souls/melodies concept (darker than the first book), but nothing too dark.
I really loved how this book focused more on the dark and light side of Terra's magic, as well as the dark and light side of several different characters. The biggest takeaway I got from the book, was the overall message that we can either let darkness overcome us...thinking we're more powerful from it (although it'll actually just weaken us) or we can cling to lightness...and truly become powerful from it as we thrive and let go of anger and bitterness.
All this to say, I'm even moreeeee excited for Cade's novella andddd THE FINAL BOOKKKKKK!!

Excuse me while I go and SOB. I honestly didn't know what I was expecting when I started reading this novella, but I didn't plan on my heart just BREAKING for poor Ryker! His backstory way so beautiful and saddddd (๐ญ), y'all!! It really explained a lot of his actions/feelings in The Heir. I loved getting inside of his head, especially since he explained a lot of different things about Terra (his home planet).
As always with novellas, I never want to spoil anything...so let me just say that if you were #TeamRyker after reading The Heir you NEED to read this book. Seriously. I'm #TeamRyker even more now. ๐๐ญ
Read the book, y'all. Read The Heir first (if you haven't already), and then binge the HECK out of this one.
As far as content goes: No language (that I can remember anyway, lol)! Emma and Ryker do share some intimate moments, but they weren't as passionate as her moments with Shad...so I wouldn't deem them as inappropriate. Ryker makes an observation that "Earthlings" might drink and do drugs to numb themselves from pain. Grief, anxiety, depression, and anger are some of the major feelings that are experienced and talked about. I personally wasn't triggered by any of this, but other readers might be...so please take that into consideration. There was a darker side to the souls/melodies concept, but nothing too dark.
Can we talk about that ending? THAT. ENDING. It snuck up on me so darn fast and just left me wanting even more (which is why I've already started reading Shattered Heir, lol). This novella reallyyyy is a great addition for the series, y'all. And Ryker reallyyyy has my heart...sorry Shad. ๐ฌ๐

Wow. Just WOW. This book was jam-packed with SO many emotions, and I felt everything that the characters felt! Fantasy books aren't my usual genre, I've just never been able to enjoy them like others doโBUT, that wasn't the case with this story. It was a really good combo of fantasy andcontemporary, as well as romance...OF COURSE.
Speaking of romance, the book had LOTS of swoony, heartfelt moments. Andddd my biggest struggle while reading about all the romance...was my feelings for Ryker, lol. BECAUSE HE'S AMAZING. I do like Shad and Emma as a possible couple, but my heartttttt wants Ryker and Emma. Either way though, I'm trying to prepare myself. ๐ฌ ๐ค
Now, I'm not really a fan of series that follow one person and their journey (am I weird? probably)...however, I am VERY excited to read the other books. Why? Well, because I'm dying to know what happens nextโDUH! Being that it is part of a series, the books DOES end with a cliffhanger...but no worries! The second books is already out ๐ and the third one is currently being written! PLUS, there's a bonus novella available (which is told from Ryker's POV *squealsssss*) and another bonus novella is coming out soon! (I'm not saying whose POV it's from though, because SPOILERS.)

Sooooo, this was a very sweet coming-of-age story with some definite intense parts; totally perfect for YA fantasy fans who want all the romance, excitement, and magical elements without having to worry about it being overbearing or inappropriate. ๐
