Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an eARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book was a very fun surprise and it proves that friends to lovers is the superior trope, and no one can say otherwise.
I really enjoyed the writing and the prose; it was beautiful. The magic system was very unique, and the connection between the mages and the wells was very interesting. The world building and the court politics were amazing and it left me wanting to know more about this world.
The main problem for me was the pacing. It was a very slow start and I struggled getting through the first chapters.
The main characters were the best part of the book, in my opinion. Grey and Kier were both incredible. The trust and devotion to each other was very special and heartwarming to read.
The found family was amazing. I loved all of the side characters; they all had amazing personalities and little quirks and flaws that make them really unique.
Honorable mention to Grey’s relationship with Sela, the protectiveness and the way Sela reminded Grey of herself was very touching.
Also, I absolutely loved the representation in this book. The main characters were queer and the side characters, were trans and non-binary.
The pace slowed down a bit near the end and the final choices were predictable. Also, the ending was a little bit disappointing and bittersweet. I really wanted a happy ending for both of them.
Overall, an amazing start to a new fantasy series and I am very excited for the second book. (Hoping for an interconnected standalone).

“I’ve loved Asher for as long as I can remember, but he's always made me feel safe. Protected. Treasured. The king makes me feel like a weapon. Powerful. Capable. Worthy.”
This book was so addicting and fun. Every chapter had me hooked and I couldn't put it down.
The world was well developed, full of court politics, intrigue and elemental magic.
It also had some of my favorite tropes: slow burn, marriage of convenience and forbidden romance.
This book was more focused on the main characters than the plot, which made it really easy to form a connection with them. I fell in love with all of them: Jory, the sheltered princess, Ky, the warrior king, and Asher, the broken assassin. I really got to care for these characters and I was really rooting for them individually and as a group. I absolutely adored Asher and my heart broke with his story.
The different POVs were my favorite part. They really help me to understand the characters' motives and emotions. And it really showed that all three characters are important and equals.
The slow burn was amazing and the tension between all three characters was phenomenal. And how it all culminated was just perfection.
However, nothing really important happened until the end and most of the twists were predictable.
Overall, this book was a very pleasant surprise and it’s very likely that I will be re-reading it in the future. Also, I need the next one, please.

I really enjoyed this book. It felt good to be back in this amazing world full of magic and danger, and dive back into it once more.
It is the middle book in the series and it did feel like a set-up for the final book. The start of it was a little bit slow for my taste and not much happened. But, around the middle part, it did pick up and I inhaled the last chapters.
I loved Wren; she is a very unique FMC, not your normal protagonist in this type of fantasy books. But, she is as lethal as any of them, as well as loyal, smart and passionate.
In the last book I was frustrated at Torj for hiding information from Wren. And in this book, it still happened, but she made Torj grovel a little bit, so it didn’t ruin the book for me.
The slow burn and the tension were really good. And the chemistry between them was amazing. They really do make a perfect couple.
I loved all of the returning side characters: Thea, Wilder, Kipp and Cal. They all have really amazing personalities, as well as little quirks and flaws that make them unique.
There was a point at the end of the book that I was like not this again, but the ending was really good.
Overall, I am really excited for the next book and to read how Wren and Torj's story ends. Also, I need a book about Kipp.
