Super boring, too much exposition, characters are bland. I gave up halfway through.

This trilogy took a book and a half to get really good, but I loved the speculative fiction world she creates out of the 19th century. Cat gains a little more depth in book 2, and by this one I just wanted to know how everything worked out for all of the characters. I love Rory, and want a panther/brother stat. The Napoleon-like character of Camijata was infuriating but wholly plausible, and an interesting take on Napoleon's ambition and ability to create lasting change on the continent with his code. So the history nerd in me enjoyed it, the HP/world-creating fantasy fiction lover in me ate it up, and even if it was a little clunky at times, totally worth the read. Also, while I dragged through book 1 - took me 2 or so weeks - finished book 3 in 3 days :)

This is more what I had hoped for out of the Spiritwalker trilogy - in addition to Elliott's incredible world-building capabilities, complete with folklore, races, politics, etc, a cast of intriguing and likable characters full of hidden motives and secrets just waiting to be discovered. Loved it. Can't wait to start #2
