I saw this book mentioned on the Fans of UF page and then a friend read it and the series and suggested I'd enjoy it. I bought the first last year and have kept meaning to go and read it. Why didn't I? It's freaking fabulous! This is a book about a woman who just turned 60, becoming the Crone out of the Maiden/Mother/Crone archetype. It's got a hefty does of Arthurian legends and mythos, and while that's usually not my thing, this author does it well. This story is fun!
Our story starts at Claire's 60th birthday party (held at her house, so she also gets to clean up, nice huh?) Then the crows come, that only she can see, and her grandson gifts her a pendant. When the pendant starts showing her things that aren't there, things really start to happen. Claire is The Crone, not just A crone. But what is that, exactly? We get to journey with Claire as she finds out, discovers her destiny and her purpose in the coming Crone Wars.
The author takes us on a thrilling magical adventure. I love the characters, the story development, and the world-building. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
