This, I think, is Chuck Tingle's darkest traditionally published novel yet. I think it's very well written and tells its story, but I cannot say it's on par with Camp Damascus or Bury Your Gays for me. I think the casts of Chuck Tingle novels really make them and I enjoyed Rose, Willow and Saul and I adored Misha and Tara in Bury Your Gays. However, Agent Layne grated on me the entire book... though i suppose that's the point. I'm still seething from him saying bisexuals don't exist. Between that and being in the mind of someone with intense depression, it was a rougher read for me. I hardly disliked it, but comparison is inevitable in an author's work. It's also very cosmic horror where I think Damascus and Gays pulled away from that in the long run. It won't be in the running for my book of the year (tragically I've read too many phenomenal books this year), but it will absolutely be taking the place it deserves on my favorites shelf. Maybe one day Chuck will give me a book about someone nonbinary. I'd really, really like that.
However, the pain of "Eight million people died... what's 77 more?" is real and a reminder of humanity that I think we often miss in real life.

Graphic: Animal death
I wish the art wasn't so stiff and the story made a little more sense. I REALLY wanted to like this. Giving it an extra start for how much I liked Rak.
The art is adorable, the story is interesting as a very romeo/juliet dynamic but more fun. I really like the characters, as they're very much the black cat/golden retriever energy I am prone to loving. I'm excited to see where this goes!
Received an ARC at ALA—but I had my eyes on this a while before. Enjoyable story and interesting, though feels a bit tropey after Solo Leveling. I have high hopes for this one to turn around, though!

Such a fun read. Not perfect, but so charming! Shesheshen carries the story so well and the love and care in Homily’s descriptions actually made me so happy.

"Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested.”
This book is the latter. And I found myself choking on it.

I never read this book for school. But I wish I had now. It reads like my dad’s stories of growing up a harbor rat, and hits home in a way, since I grew up in a trailer park. I don’t know how to get my thoughts in order about it. But it’s probably one of the best books I’ve ever read.

If you close the book before the last chapter it’s fantastic. Genuinely had to take off 2 stars for the last 3 pages.
