kawakami has a nice style of prose, and the book delves into significant topics about womanhood, life, death and childbearing. however, the storytelling is all over the place and it was waaaay longer than it should’ve been. there are very nice plot points (some unfortunately not followed through), but the book gets lost in itself and it kind of ruins most of the experience.
I think it tried to be more than it was, so that was kind of a bummer.
