it took me a little while to get into Fitzgerald’s writing style but i was quickly captured by the intriguing characters and subversive world. i loved the character development and the mcs’ relationships. Styx was my fave character i think! i’d totally recommend!
the character development was beautiful, the pacing was fabulous - i was literally giggling and swinging my legs i was so happy. dylan is super hilarious and i love how ben was exploring his identity a bit more.
samantha might be my fave character - i love her and her storyline so much!
sooo good! i learnt a lot about the perspective of gender queer ppl and it also felt like AJ was just talking to me and we were having a really deep convo. I’d totally recommend - especially if you want to learn more about the trans experience!
i really loved the queer joy this book had mixed with dynamic and layered characters!
the settings were so well described and i enjoyed the richness of the Korean culture surrounding each chapter and scene.
one thing i disliked was that one of the characters referred to having a “cheat day” three or four times which really burnt my toast. it’s a stupid diet culture belief that was completely unnecessary in a ya book! or any book for that matter.
i would totally recommend this book - it will make you yearn for your own wlw romance !
THIS IS NOW ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BOOKS I HAVE EVER HAD THE BLESSING TO READ!!! the characters are so so real and so so loveable.
i’m not lying when i say this book was the first book i’ve been a breath away from tears for. but i also laughed and giggle so much!
all the Shakespeare extracts were amazing and i could relate to the characters’ love of acting and friendship and Shakespeare and joy and their identity exploration so so much.
this is hands DOWN my favourite Alice Oseman book.
i didn’t want it to end but i also couldn’t wait to finish it so i can go look up all the fanart!!!
this book was cheesy, corny and cliched and completely implausible at times but it was also pretty cute.
the amount of cute queer moments was v heartwarming but some of the plot points, especially the last couple of chapters became almost impossible to be counted at contemporary and not fantasy lol.
one thing that boiled my blood slightly was that Never Kiss Your Roomate is set in England but all the characters say mom and closet and candy and gray and stuff. it could of been easily set in america but it wasn’t.
anyway, overall, i’d recommend if you want a short to medium read with lots of queer characters !
although some of the characters seemed stuck in stereotypes of race and class, i thought the characters were really well portrayed when it came to their experiences with mental illness and addiction.
i loved the ill kids do crime aspect and the found family vibes although i don’t normally like the latter trope
they all seemed real and had heart and dynamic personalities - all the characters had layers which i loved to read about.
i thought Kendall’s anorexia was portrayed really well as i can unfortunately relate to her in that sense. her late night runs were heart wrenching to read but were described and written so well
i loved Juno’s writing and now want to read more Dawson books.
obviously, BIG TRIGGER WARNINGS for anorexia, binge eating, ocd, addiction, drug abuse, self harm and make sure to check these before reading!
i’d 100% recommend clean, especially to ppl who have gone through mental illnesses and struggled with addiction WHO ARE NOW RECOVERED!
ahh this was so good. super cute and, as always with alice oseman, super easy to read in a relaxing and cute way. i also loved loved loved darcy and tara’s little appearances!
I liked Radio Silence a lot more than i thought i would. i love when there’s different forms of media in books - like podcast transcripts - and i loved the small, quick chapters which made it easy to read. i also loved the subtle appearance of solitaire / heartstopper characters which you could miss but i loved seeing them! the diverse cast was also so great! i would definitely recommend this book and i can’t wait to read more Osemanverse novels.
