This is a fine book and by all measures one that I should like. I just don't I picked it up and put it down over and over, all summer long - it just never grabbed me, never held my attention.
This book is wonderful. It's a lyrical, melodic, beautiful weaving of a story in and out of other stories in a way that makes you wish it would never end. Truly, a story for those who love stories. Honestly, 5 stars.
If you enjoy a feminist retelling of Greek mythology, there are better options out there. Some of the storylines are interesting and worth reading, many are not. This isn't a "story told from the woman's point of view" so much as it's a "men are awful and should be punished" type story. It's a bit too "hit you over the head with the point" for my liking.
This was a really interesting premise and I think it was well done. Personally, I figured out all of the "big reveals" before they happened, which sort of spoils it, but I think that has more to do with me than with the book or the author. If you know what tropes to look for, the telegraphing is clear - but they were good tropes that worked well for this story and I think the author handled them nicely. The characters are relatable and the emotion feels real and I definitely enjoyed the ride.
