I want to start this off by saying you really should not go into this book without checking the triggers. Detective Steve Ryan had seen a lot during his time on the police force and it would have made me quit.  I had to take breaks every so often because some of his cases just made me cry.  My heart goes out to everyone involved in the cases and to Steve Ryan.

I love books about pop culture because I love learning the behind-the-scenes of my favorite things. I have seen The Exorcist long ago and haven't read the book. (I will still be reading the book soon) Like most people, I have heard all the creepy stories about the filming of the OG movie and I wanted to learn more about that. I did learn about that and so much more. I do think anyone who loves both the movie and the book should really read this. Now I can't wait to watch The Exorcist again; the new one is coming out in 2023.

Thank you, Netgalley and Citadel for approving this book for me to give my honest review.

I do have to say I hated Sarah but that made me love the book even more. Lisa M. Matlin did a fantastic job writing a character you hated but still wanted to read the book. I loved how she wrote about mental health and how she didn't make it cliche. There is a big trigger for me in this book was animal sickness and there is animal death in the book but it isn't the MC cat.  I really could have read this book in one day but I did need to take breaks to get my anxiety down (in a good way). I do think this is a good book for people just getting into thriller/horror.  The twist and turns had me on the edge of my sit and I loved it. I really can't wait to read more from Lisa M. Matlin.

Thank you Netgalley for the book in exchange for an honest review

I have read The Maidens but I did DNF it but after reading The Fury, I will be picking up The Maidens again. The Fury had me hooked from the prologue and the flow of the writing. I blow through the first half but it lagged during the second half, so I moved my rating to a four star. There was plot points I really didn't like so my rating moved again. I did guess one of the twist but man I didn't see the ending coming at all. That ending made it go back to a high four star book. Will pick up The Silent Patient and The Maidens very soon.

Thank you Celadon for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

I have to say this is my favorite book I read in August. I could hardly put it down but I had to sleep. I love how Janice Hallett draws me into the world and keeps me there. I feel like I am reading all the documents along with everyone else. It also made me feel like this was a real case that I need to look up.

I didn't know I missed this little group of amateur actors but I did. Janice Hallett knocked out of the park again. This is a perfect read for Christmas or all year around. I really can't wait to read more from Janice Hallett.
