so this story is definitely insta-love which i didn't mind but i did wish there was a bit more build up in the romance? but i guess it was going to feel rushed considering it's a short book
didn't really feel the chemistry between the love interests, and i wasn't really attached to the characters?? the writing was also repetitive and bland at times
the spicy scenes really lacked imo, but the plot was okay and i did gasp a few times at the plot twists lmao
at least there's no miscommunication or break up, because honestly the author could have done that...but it was a healthy relationship being portrayed
overall, it was an okay read and i guess i could recommend it but it didn't wow me in any way
this book had me HOOKED and i finished it in a week (which is a record for me these days)!!
i was completely infuriated with june throughout the book, so much so that i was cussing under my breath and flipping off the pages lmao. to me, it seemed like june's recollection of events and of athena were completely ingenuine and i was never inclined to believe her. and the way she kept making it worse and worse for herself?? crazy loool
yellowface really opened my eyes to how the publishing industry can be, though i always knew it wasn't so clean cut, because what is these days??
the fast-pace of the booked really has me anchored to the book and the plot was INSANE...i've never read anything like this!!
guess i gotta read more of rf kuang's books, huh...
I couldn't stop listening to this! The cast was great and gave an amazing performance. The journal-style of this book definitely suits an audiobook format.
The plot of the book was so intricate and well-paced and I loved every element of it. The plot twists had my jaw dropping lol

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for providing me with an ARC of this book. All my thoughts and opinions are my own and I leave a review voluntarily.

I really loved this book!
Family Lore centres around the Marte women and their lives in the past, present and future. It explores culture, family bonds and sexuality, with elements of magical realism. And these are all the things I love.
Often, when going back and forth between past and present day, books can get confusing but I found it easy to follow the timelines in this book. Acevado also writes in such a way that you're able to really engross yourself in the story.
Sisterly bonds were showcased wonderfully here and I liked that every woman had differing personalities.
The book gets published in August 2023, and I would recommend it!

kazuo ishiguro's writing is so vivid and flavourful that i could envision the whole book in my head
klara is such an interesting character and i was instantly fond of her from the beginning of the book. i loved the fact that you only knew as much as the narrator (klara) and learned information along the way as she did
sometimes the sheer volume of descriptions being thrown at you can be dizzying, however
this book really makes you reflect on human emotions, love especially
honestly i resonated with nora as an older sister, but i am experiencing burnout with working in a city so i was pretty indifferent on that front. her relationship with her sister was nice to see
charlie seemed to be similar to gus?? idk maybe the peppered hair and similar past relationship?? but that's just a minor observation.
i'm glad that the ending didn't have charlie and nora having kids because they both clearly said they didn't want them, and that's okay lol
i liked the chemistry between nora and charlie and the setting of sunshine falls
i've yet to read a emily henry book i don't like...
