I always enjoy a good Civil War drama! Return to Shirley Plantation had a nice combination of history, suspense, mystery, and romance. Several different perspectives were well represented and the storyline was engaging.

Grace Foster leaves her sleepy little hometown in Texas to follow what she believes is God's calling for her life, marrying a rich man. She finds a perfect opportunity to serve God AND find her rich mister right when her friend Anne asks her to help run a Chicago orphanage.
Trevor James, rancher and dedicated Bible student, meets Grace on the train and they discover their mutual destination. She assumes he's a poor cowboy and obviously not the man God has planned for her. Grace has grand plans for all the good she'll be able to accomplish as a rich man's wife and she can't see past his humble outward appearance.
I was annoyed with Grace for the majority of the book but she's likable, just a little misguided. Trevor is a wonderful hero. He's humble, humorous, and devoted. Trevor and Grace's friends and Grace's aunt were supportive and encouraging. The story was full of mystery, suspense, humor, and romance. It's a good read and I would enjoy continuing the series.

Break Every Chain is an intense and powerful story that exposes the very real plague of sex trafficking in Nicaragua. The story is told from a variety of perspectives, an American man visiting on a mission trip, a young girl who has been sold into the trade, an American woman running a safe haven for those who escape the cycle, and a local man who has made it his personal mission to save as many as he can. Barry Napier's book is profoundly moving and a reminder that God is still and always working and moving.

Small town girl leaves everything about her home behind and sets out to change the world but when she returns to care for her dying father she begins to realize that the world has been changing her. She misses her music, the outdoors, and the friends she left behind. Her controlling fiancee and his manipulative mother do everything in their power to get what they want. The story had some twists and turns and was ultimately a story of redemption and restoration.

Mr. Collins has crafted an intriguing, multifaceted WWII drama. This is not a stand alone and it definitely leaves you wanting more and primed for the next episode. The characters are a nice mix of fictional and historical. This episode takes place in America, England, and Germany. Just from reading this part of the series I would be interested in going back to the beginning and reading the other episodes as well.

Alex has a rough time of it, from being married by a fake (bank robbing) pastor to losing his memory while on his way to he can't remember where. Maggie's life isn't all sunshine and roses either, both her parents have died and her sister died during childbirth as a disgraced unmarried woman. She's trying to keep the ranch running while raising her younger sister and nephew on her own. This story is laced with faith and full of exciting twists and turns!

What a great way to kick off a second generation of the Jewel series! I've read Sapphire Ice, Greater than Rubies, and Christmas Diamond so I'm familiar with most of the characters but they are sufficiently developed here so this novella would be fine as a stand-alone as well. Reading Christmas Star Sapphire makes me want to read the remaining novels from the Jewel series to really explore the Viscolli extended family dynamics. I like how the storyline includes the characters exploring some of the biblical principles of money as well as issues like dating, choosing a profession, and family relationships.

The Boyette brothers are brutally real. Both brothers have secrets and struggle with anger and addiction, so much so that I had a hard time liking the bad boys at first. However, before the story ended, I found that I loved them for their determination and growing faith. The Boyette brothers are able to move forward in large part because of their strong support system of Godly family and friends. The storyline was vivid and realistic, suspenseful and romantic.

The entire Virtues and Valor collection has been a great experience! I'm so glad Hallee decided to write Leo's story to conclude the series. Leo's journey as Valor was thought provoking and action packed. More than once Leo is torn between his growing attraction to Marie and his mission within the enemy's ranks. Reading his story has given me a deeper appreciation for the work and struggles of those involved in espionage. My ten year old daughter has read the series along side me and she has enjoyed and re-read them all! I highly recommend this book and all the other titles in the series.

This story takes two separate courses from one point in time. Essentially, Justin or "Flip" has to choose whether he will resist temptation or indulge and suffer the consequences. The chapters titled Justin follow the man and his family as he grows in character and strength while the chapters titled Flip show the results of a life lived for self. Both viewpoints are insightful and thought provoking. There's a saying, "no one sins in a bubble" and that truth is vividly illustrated in this book. A good life is built on a solid foundation of faith.
