Half of me liked this, and the other half wished I early on marked it as "DNF" and moved on with my life

losing my mind that this was basically published GOT fanfiction

I had high hopes for this, but it just was lacking something for me...maybe the translation was off or something, but the writing style felt too young for its characters.

I ordered this book from a UK bookstore because I literally could not wait until August to read it in the U.S. and it was absolutely worth the international shipping!!! I devoured it in under 24 hours.

O’Leary has the ability to create characters you wish you knew, with problems that are relatable and a story line so charming it leaves you grinning ear to ear. I love and adore her stories and will read anything she publishes from here on out.

The best way I can describe this book is like when you catch up with a friend you haven't seen in a while. At first: it's great! You're like, "Wow! I've missed this person and the times we shared! Why would we have ever parted from each other?"

And then....probably an hour or two into the hangout (so like 100 pages here), you're suddenly hit with the realization on why you and said-friend parted ways for so long. They're toxic, kinda creepy, cool with kidnapping their partner, only ever talk about themselves, know too much about classical music and cars for you to care...you know, the usual.

But then you're in too deep! Leaving in the middle of multiple random background stories that have NOTHING to do with either of you seems too mean, so you stay until the end...(whenever that is.) THEN by the grace of the Volturi...the book ends...and YOU'RE FREE and questioning why you ever ate this (and said person) up in the first place.

That my friends is what it was like to read this book in the holy year that is 2021. Now I'm gonna go scream for multiple hours about the lack of physical descriptions in this book about the characters that left me to just assume we were rolling with whoever was cast in the movies...which like cool...but you know...

something about a book with short chapters that has a ‘knives out’ sort of feel gets a girl going, okay?!

BARDUGO...baby girl...why the plot switch up in the last 70 pages! I now have three new grey hairs from the sudden frustration I had to go through

horror novels where the shit *finally* hits the fan during the last 50 pages will indeed be the death of me, so yeah, I'm currently writing this review from the grave if you couldn't tell
