This book was supposed to be a trilogy but instead got smooched together into one book with three parts, and you can tell. There is a breakneck pace and barely any space for character moments. Which is something that’s very important to me as a reader. The idea and setting are completely out of the box for me and that did keep me quite engaged at the beginning, but as the story continued moving along too fast I felt like I was being forcibly dragged along.
It didn’t help that I didn’t vibe with the main character at all too, I’m not fond of “brash man angry at everything, that’s better at fighting than everyone else so he doesn’t listen”.

So while I found the setting interesting the lack of character focus made me not enjoy this book.

Though this book falls under the literary type of books of "nothing much happens" it did provide me with fun characters and a relaxed story to follow along as the main character slowly got her confidence and will to work back. The internal dialogues were quite fun, and the book did its job of relaxing me during exam season, as well as before I start my full time.

You can tell the author, and the main character, are really big fans of the X-men, as there are references to them all throughout the book. I only have general knowledge of the X-men so I bet I missed a lot, still found it fun. All the characters and the relationships between them were cute and had me giggling at some of the interactions. Though I felt some of them were childish, the characters were teenagers so it felt adequate for them.

I think a lot of the conflict and moral choices were hand waved away at the end but it wasn't enough to shatter my suspension of disbelief.
