Wonderful prose. Beautifully woven stories with a heavy nod to our collective state of the world, but I felt they the ending didn't stick the landing.

Ted Chiang is the fuckin GOAT.
I read EXHALATION in the summer of 2018 and since then those stories have - like Casper - pleasantly haunted my brain. This crop of stories will be no different.
Ted has a delicate, humanitarian way of writing science fiction, and you can see it embroidered in each story. Whether it's a rush, almost action-movie packed story like "Understand" or a historical fiction account like "Babel" the precision of the humanitarian thread shines throughout. A resplendent collection!
Read this if you like art galleries, aliens, linguistics, or Dennis Villeneuve movies.

I flew through this one at break neck speed. A fascinating character study on the human condition as it pertains to unknown events. Fans of Jeff Vandermeer will love this one.
