Enthralling, witty, and pertinent. I learned SO much about West Indian beliefs: food, medicine, and folklore galore. Hopkinson is an immensely talented writer, and I’m her newest fan.

DNF.

Great premise, but the overall characterization was quite heavy-handed. Dubus III is a solid writer but I am uncertain if I am interested in reading any of the stories he has written.

Remarkably candid but unexpectedly harrowing.

This book is an artifact of toxic Hollywood that was sorely needed. Almost immediately, it delivers evidence that child stardom harbors and encourages child abuse.

McCurdy proves her true calling as a writer in so many ways: vividly painting scenery, pacing her steady and unsteady thoughts, and by consistently dotting the tragic voices with blackened comedic undertones.

More than ever, I am eager to read her fiction debut in the future.
