This book has been absolutely amazing! I read a lot of science fiction, if I could compare it to any series I would say it has a lot of elements of foundation series. In fact the key is probably the slow grand strategy like build of the entire story. It makes you feel small but yet not insignificant in the grand overarching plot. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next one

2/5 rating. It gets one extra for just existing. I hope the next one is waaaaaaaaaay shiner.

I am and will forever be in love with the Firefly universe. I'm happy we are getting more material no matter what quality.

Also, why would you write a book pre-serenity? Sure,
this could have been an excellent two-episode arc in the series. But if you are continuing something after more than a decade, the least you can do is respect that.

My issues are mainly with the entire story having no stakes; we knew the crew would survive. The new characters were meh at best. And I don't understand how you can take over 100 pages to set up a story in an already established universe. And don't get me started on the ham-fisted references and lack of imagination while naming things and world building. How could you get the tone and cadence of pre-establisheers are before me?

The pacing was off. It was utterly dull at points. Most new characters were entirely one dimensional, and the end was predictable.

This book is so perfect! I can't wait to reread it in a week. This book shares the ideal combination of grief, loss and hope. I haven't been this moved by any text in a bit, and this is going on my all time favourites!

Just watch the show there is no point picking this up.
