We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Another book club read!

I never considered myself a feminist and after reading this book, I don’t think my mind has changed. I won’t deny feminism is necessary in some cultures, but as a white woman in the western world, I have never been met with inequality myself. Nevertheless, it was interesting to read the perspective from someone who has faced inequality.

My mother made twice the amount my father did and she was a proud woman. They taught me that if I work hard, I can get whatever I want. So in that regard the book was right, I suppose: teach your children right and they won’t know inequality.

Overall, a very interesting book and I’m happy to have read it.

My book club tricked me into reading this book. It was so-so.

I liked the storyline and the writing was good but I feel this shouldn’t have been a short story. It felt unfinished, there were so many unanswered questions. Shame shame! 🤷‍♀️

Dandelion wine is an amazing book as it doesn’t have a plot, but rather describes the essence of summer and happiness. I wouldn’t know how else to describe this book

I knew from page 1 this would be a great read, such gorgeous poetic writing!! The one minus point is that the sentences were quite long at times so me, a person with ADD, struggled to get through them!

Overall a 4/5 stars and would recommend!

The perfect book to read on a long train ride, couldn’t put it down and it definitely sped up my 6 hour journey!

I’m honestly torn on how to rate this book. It was a nice read and I enjoyed the writing style, but I’m unsure of what the writer was trying to achieve.

The story starts out by describing ‘the rapture’, an event that claimed millions of people across the world, but clearly that wasn’t the main focus of the book. It tried to show what mass disappearance would lead to, how people would seek comfort in each other or might not ever be able to move on.

Someone wrote: this was both the most interesting and boring book ever, and I must agree. So for that, I’ve rated it a 3/5.

I must say I’m disappointed in this book. The topic was right up my alley but the execution just was not it for me.

The first chapter of the book was interesting, but once we switched POV, it became SO slow and I just couldn’t get myself to keep reading. It seemed unrealistic for someone who has been kidnapped, to constantly think about art and her douchebag friends.

The ending was interesting and reminded me of
the Netflix show ‘You’.

All in all, I think I probably would’ve loved this book if chapter 2 didn’t exist or if the POV’s alternated over time to give different perspectives.

2.5 stars for this one.

This is not the type of book I’d usually pick up, in fact, quite the opposite. But I’m happy to report I LOVED it!

This book made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I could really find myself in Ava’s character and was rooting for her happiness. I loved the symbolisms throughout the book, they were very well done. I loved the love story, and that it wasn’t cheesy and overdone. It was well-balanced with other themes, and brought a smile to my face. 🥰

My only critique is that the bird theme felt a bit overdone. I loved the symbolism, but how did nobody in this village question that all of it’s inhabitants shared a bird’s name?

Overall a great find. Happy to finally read a book that hasn’t been heavily promoted by influencers yet!

So, let me jump right in like the book did…

Although chapter 1 was an immediate jump into the story, it somehow paused for 200 pages before packing the rest with action. The storyline was fantastic, I’m just not so sure about the execution.

Somehow the book felt both fast-pased and slow-pased at the same time? I felt like this book didn’t need to be 400+ pages.. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy this book. In all honesty, I couldn’t put it down for the last 200 pages, however in my opinion the book was only just above average in the end.

Despite the exciting
legal battles between the 2 couples
, I unfortunately didn’t care for the ending.
Reading about Maddie’s character, I didn’t feel like psychopathy fit or was well-described in her, like it was with Miles. I also don’t think he needed to die. It seems like the easy way out, as if Delaney didn’t know what to do with him towards the end.
