This didn't quite work for me. So much tension in the writing for little pay off. The moments ts of historical and cultural conext of 1950s Haiti were compelling but there wasn't enough of it.
I also had issues with the time jumps in the beginning - it felt like a decision made in the editing process to try and tie details together but they never quite clicked.
Thanks to Tin House for the ARC.

Cute. Loved the music and Harlem references. I'm not enough of a romance girlie for the rest to resonate more.

Edit: tried this a second time on audio and DNFing again. When you're at 86% but there's still 3+ hours to go and you can't be bothered to care about any characters in this anemic plot... time to call it quits.

DNF at 172 pages. I couldn’t get into a rhythm with this. It was dragging. May attempt it again on audio.
