Now that I think I'm finally over the initial state of shock I was in when I finished this book, I can recommend it. I finished reading this Friday at 3:28am with a mixture of insomnia and "I can't put this down" driving me. Then, at 3:28am, the only thing I could do was lie in my bed awake thinking WTF JUST HAPPENED?

This book revolves around a little Black girl (9yo) who killed a little white baby girl (3mo), allegedly. There are a few tough & some uncomfortable topics that the book touches on (mental illness, racism, failed justice system, child abuse...). However, it's also told from a 16 year old's perspective so it's not that deep (kind of). Idk but that is all I will say as I recommend going into this book blind. You'll either love or hate the end, which is normal for me. But I loved it, which is not normal for me LOL.

It's also written by a Black author so #BlackGirlMagic

I loved it. I read it in one day which I wish I would stop doing, but then again these type of books deserve the one day treatment. This book completely mind-fucked me and I appreciate it very much. As soon as I finished the book I felt speechless because I had so much to say but could not figure out how to accurately convey my feelings. The ending is definitely in the love it or hate it category. I, of course, loved it. I don't particularly care for audiobooks, but I feel like this book would probably be AMAZING to listen to. There is a twist that you'll never see coming. Suspenseful. Borderline thriller. The best part was I came in thinking it would be about one thing and it ended up being about something else, but then ultimately was about what I thought it was about. Confused? Yes, this book will do that to you. Interesting book. Give it a try.

This book releases August 1st, but thanks to Amazon I was able to read it earlier. I chose this as my July Kindle First book and I was pleasantly surprised.

I never read science fiction. However, I’m trying to get more into it because I always end up liking the movies based off of science fiction books. I like the movie then I go back to read the books. Then I find myself wishing I didn’t already know what was going to happen.

This month I took a leap and put myself in a position I have been trying to avoid: liking the first book in a series and left to wait on the next.

Such a first world problem, but still a problem nonetheless. Plus, I read too fast so I was already finished in only a day. Set myself up for failure.

The book was science fiction-y, but it also had some romance and feminist aspects to it. I enjoyed the balance. The world created was very interesting and I’d love to know more about it. I could even do with less romance in book 2. I think this is supposed to be a 3 book series so looking forward to reading the next ones in subsequent years.
