This one was a bit more intense for me personally with our detective being pregnant and possible complications she experiences - otherwise as far as a Rockton/Haven’s Rock book I really enjoyed it! I did get to a point of wondering “how do bad things keep happening with them” with the trying to start new outside the corruption we saw in Rockton- but Armstrong found a way that made sense.
If you’re a fan of this series I think you’ll enjoy it! If this is your first time picking up a Rockton/Haven’s Rock I would recommend starting with a different one.

To start off- This was the PERFECT depiction of a true young adult romance. These characters felt their age and the choices/beliefs they held aligned with where they should be as high schoolers.
Outside of that, omg I love how Kristy Boyce writes about dnd as a dnd player myself. The campaign the characters go on is one that I actually want to watch- and that speaks to Kristy’s writing.
If you like: YA romances and DnD this one is a no brainer.
Thank you Delacorte Romance for access to the eARC!
But actually this was the perfect book for me and was such a sweet Romance. Hannah is an auto-buy author, but for a good reason. It’s a fantastic read and if you’re a romance reader then you should preorder this ASAP!
Thank you Penguin House/Dell Romance for the eARC through NetGalley!

Mary E. Pearson - it was a joy to read a new work from you.
The world, the yearning, the layers that added to the plot - easily a 5 star read. Pearson has a knack for creating worlds that reveal themselves over time and characters that feel real. Theres no 2-dimensional characters to be found, and it adds to the twists and the fun.
I also was listening to the book, completely hooked, and didn't know the end was actually the end and my jaw dropped. New favorite way to do a cliffhanger? Iykyk.
I feel like I almost took half a star because I was desperate for more (jk) but actually because this felt like a "New Adult" vs a true adult with the FMC being 21/22 - but alas, that is a publishing issue not a Pearson issue

Ahhhhhhhh!!! I read Megan Lally's debut earlier this year, That's Not My Name, and it was a "one sitting" read. I WISH I was able to read this book in one sitting.
The back and forth of the timelines was done so well, and I love a good unreliable character (who do you think it is???)
Highly recommend pre-ordering this book, or picking it up once it's published in January 2025.

received an audio-ARC of this book in exchange for a reivew disclaimer... book reviews are subjective and people have different taste :)
3.5 stars rounded up ⭐️ as an avid mystery/thriller reading the title HOOKED me. I requested this based on the title alone. And honestly? I feel like it lived up to the title, and once I actually read the synopsis I think the book was solid! The narration was really well done, and I felt engaged through most of it.
I do think there was some fluff and rabbit trails that could've been trimmed down - which I don't think is all that uncommon with books that are kinda following two mysteries.
I don't think I am the intended age group that this was written for as a "zillennial" - but I think if you're upper Millennial/Gen X you may relate to the main character more!
Overall - it was a very easy listen and I can say I enjoyed it! No crazy red flags for me, so if it interests you I say give it a try.
