3.5/5 stars.
It took me a while to finish this book because I found it really hard to get into at first. The first part of the book moves quite slowly and I even put it down for a while. I was really determined to pick it back up and finish it though and I AM SO GLAD I DID.

I fell in love with the characters and once the story really takes off it's hard to put it down. I can't wait to read the rest of this series!

I loved You're Welcome,Universe! The diversity in the book is just incredible, the main character Julia is Deaf, Indian and she has two moms. I especially liked that the fact that Julia has two moms is never used as a plot point, they're treated just like any other parents. I also feel like this book taught me a lot about what it's like to be deaf. I frequently found myself trying to sign with the ASL illustrations in the book.

The thing that really made this book great for me is the main character Julia. She felt so real. I loved how unapologetic and strong she is. She really made it such an enjoyable read.

Overall I think You"re Welcome, Universe is a great contemporary that is definitely worth reading.

Actual rating: 2.5/5

I was really excited to start reading this but in the end Queens of Geek just did not live up to my expectations.

Let's start with the things I did like. I actually loved how diverse this book is, a lot of important issues regarding sexuality and mental health are addressed in the book and it's done very well. As someone who suffers from anxiety I can definitely say that the portrayal of anxiety in the book is really accurate.

Another thing I really liked was that the story is set at a comic con. I personally love going to conventions and that made it easy to relate to the main characters. It was so fun to read a book that was set at a comic con and after reading it I'm definitely excited to go to another convention next year!

However, the reason I'm only giving a 2.5 star rating is because I think the story itself is pretty lacklustre. There's not much of a plot and the writing and dialogue are average. Overall it is a pretty cute quick read but I wouldn't expect too much from it.
