The Idiot by Elif Batuman
3.0
3.5 ⭐️
3.5 seems a bit harsh for a book I thoroughly enjoyed - honestly I loved Selin and Batuman’s hilarious sense of humour! I found I much preferred the first part to the second - and the more I read of it the more I wished it had been edited down/shorter. It felt far too long and rambly (but I guess that’s part of its charm?!) A very enjoyable read nonetheless - I loved Batuman’s style!

I can see why people like this, it just wasn’t for me. It was very readable and quick to read and I did want to find out what was going to happen - but I found the way the majority of Keiko’s family & friends treated her (so condescending!) to be rather bleak. Still, an unusual book that’s got me thinking.
