This book is plain boring and much harder to read than it needed to be. Occasional interesting observations kept me going, but the book is probably not worth your time.

I didn't like this book nearly as much as the first two books by Barnard, to a significant extent due to the setting of the novel (I'm definitely not an opera fan), but it was okay.

This is not really a murder mystery. The setting and the characters completely dominate the narrative. It's a great book. The ending surprised me, even though it shouldn't have, and that's part of why it's almost at five stars.

A very enjoyable book.
