“As she pulled out onto PCH, "Hungry Heart" started playing through her speakers and Ashley felt just the tiniest bit of hope. Your whole world can be falling apart, she thought, but then Springsteen will start playing on the radio.”

“He couldn’t believe it was only Wednesday.
And it was made worse when he realized it was actually Tuesday.”
“I refuse to believe that a person’s path is set in stone. A person is more than where they come from.”
“Dreams are merely that - dreams. They’re meant to be flights of fancy. They’re not necessarily supposed to come true.”
“Just because you don’t experience prejudice in your everyday doesn’t stop it from existing for the rest of us.”
“Our predecessors knew the only way to help assimilate magical persons into our culture was to have stringent guidelines set in place to assure a smooth transition.
Arthur’s gaze hardened slightly. “And who said they needed to be assimilated at all? Was any choice given?””
“Only because he’s still wrestling with what he was told he was supposed to be versus who he actually is.”
“Sometimes, things get chopped and broken, but there’s still good in them.”
“I find our perception is colored by what we’re taught. Even as children, we’re told the world is a certain way, and these are the rules.”
“It’s not fair, Linus said, staring off into nothing. “The way some people can be. But as long as you remember to be just and kind like I know you are, what those people think won’t matter in the long run. Hate is loud, but I think you’ll learn it’s because it’s only a few people shouting, desperate to be heard. You might not even be able to change their minds, but so long as you remember you’re not alone, you will overcome.”
“But those of us who dream of impossible things know just how far we can go when pushed to do so.”
“There are moments in your life, moments when chances have to be taken. It’s scary because there is always the possibility of failure. I know that.”
“I refuse to believe that. We are who we are not because of our birthright, but because of what we choose to do in this life. It cannot be boiled down to black and white. Not when there is so much in between. You cannot say something is moral or immoral without understanding the nuances behind it.”
“Morality is relative. Just because you find something abhorrent, doesn’t mean it actually is.”
“You keep them segregated from everyone else because they’re different than the rest of us. People fear them because they’re taught to. See something, say something. It inspires hatred.”

One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This is the first book I’ve read of TJR that I’ve given less than 5 stars to. Now don’t get me wrong, I still LOVED the book (hence the 4 stars). She has a way of writing that gets you into the stories and attached to the characters that you can’t help but root for - and that from the first few lines. This book was no different!
The only reason I gave it one less star (than my usual 5 stars ++ for any other of her books I have previously read) was because I am not much of a fan of a love triangle storyline. That is not my personal favorite.
I will still be the first person in line waiting to buy TJR’s new book and I still have 2 of her oldest ones to read.

The Margot Affair by Sanaë Lemoine

As a French woman I was very excited to read this book. It was recommended to me by a friend and I am very happy to have finally read it.
I LOVED all the French cultural references throughout the book. Very real, authentic life of a Parisian girl. I just wish the characters had more redeeming qualities. I felt none of them were very likable and I found myself not necessarily rooting for the main character, Margot. Have I mentioned I absolutely love that name?
I enjoyed this quick and easy read that celebrates all things French!
