It is cute for what it is.
I thought the main character was a bit shallow, or, a charicature, and at 75% the tone of the story suddenly switched.
But it was a fun and easy love story, without spice, and if you love cats, you are going to like the story.

I did not expect to actually like the book, not really being into vampire stories.
But this was good.
I comitted the biggest herresy by also watching the movie for the first time while I still had 1/4 of the book to go. But I actually liked to see the differences, and Rice's way of writing depth to characters.

Rereading made me love this book even more, even though it also made me dislike some parts equally more.
But this is a fascinating story if you sometimes put aside that its clearly wtitten by a straight white man.

But I'm a fan of everything Meghan Davis writes.
And The Memoir of Johnny Daywalker is not an exeption.
This story does not deal with vampiric themes in a typical way.
This book is about existing. And about love, humanity, being yourself and ageing.
And it is beautiful.
For a (fictional) memoir, this book felt a bit short and I wanted more, BUT I feel it's cleverly intentional.
And that is also a big strenght of Meghan as an author, she knows what she is doing. She is thorough, even though her published stories are short in lenght.
She is just that skilled, and I am just a humble fan reading everything she writes.

"Stacey M. Kells was here, Stacey M. Kells is alive, Stacey M. Kells exist."
.
.
Reading The Legend Liminal by Ren Hutchings is like walking around in a liminal space.
Kinda eerie for its emptyness and timelessness, but also soothing because if forces you to just exist.
And that is what this book is about.
This story is short, engaging, has loveable characters that are siblings +1 that have to navigate a new and weird reality together, but also in their own way.
It deals with grief, messy family dynamic and existing as a human being, all while being on a roadtrip through a world that is not what it seems.
This awesome book comes out September 30th, and I recieved this arc in return for my honest opinion. Thank you Stars And Sabers for sending me this!
