Belvedor and the Four Corners by Ashleigh Bello

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I was super excited when Ashleigh Bello got in touch with me and offered the e-book version of her debut fantasy novel for my honest review. After reading the synopsis I knew I would be in for an exciting adventure into the world of the Four Corners! With many twists and turns this novel took me on I never knew what to expect next! So let's get to the breakdown of this review!

The Plot

The premise of Belvedor and the Four Corners was very reminiscent of Hunger Games where teens would have to fight to the death for their freedom. But there was so much more to the story as it developed and the comparison was left invalid. You follow Arianna and her friends as they journey to find the magic that was abolished and to gain the freedom they never thought was possible.

There were so many 'OMG' moments that I was always left at the edge of my seat. You are thrown into this magical world with so many different elements that leaves you in amazement. With every great novel in a series it of course leaves you wanting more, and I seriously can't wait to have my questions answered in the second book!

The Writing

Bello's writing style is very unique. Everything is well described and the world is so intricate that could only be brought to life the way she wrote it. The dialogue at times left me rolling my eyes over the cheesy character interactions, but I was over all happy with the way this book was written. She was able to connect me as a reader to the emotions and actions of the characters. For that I am thankful.

The Characters

Naturally this book is about Four Corners of this kingdom, so I will talk about a character from each one:

Arianna, the strong warrior. The main protagonist of our story. She is from the corner of warriors where her abilities lie within fighting and war. She is thrust into this magical world from her mentor Solomon who is determined to see her free from slavery. She is very curious to learn more about her magical background and does everything in her power to keep her friends safe from harms way.

Lessa, the wise healer. Is the mysterious ghost girl that Arianna meets early on in the story. She is the second to join the group on their adventure and became fast friends with Arianna. She is from the corner of healing where her abilities lie within healing others and medicine making. She is strong willed and just as determined as Arianna to escape their kingdom and fight for her freedom. She also has her monkey avatar Sato who healed her from a terrible fall.

Jeom, the curious creator. He is the third to join the group on their adventure. He is from the corner of creation where his abilities lie in the creation and building of furniture and weapons. We find out that he is brothers to Demetrius and that he has a magical background linked to a past race. He is a strong, level headed character that everyone will be fond of.

Demetrius, the mysterious Agrarian. We don't meet Demetrius until the second half of the book, so a lot of his character is left to the imagination. He is Jeom's brother from another mother (I think), and the fourth to join the group on their adventure. He is from the corner of agriculture where his abilities lie in sustenance of nature. He is inquisitive, adventurous, and definitely has that mysterious element to him.

The Cover

I absolutely love this cover! It was what sparked my curiosity to find out more about this novel after being contacted. The background art of the snowy mountains looks magical and the cover model really envisions Arianna as a character with a hint of mystery. Just look at how glorious this cover is!

So I can't emphasize how amazing this book was! For a debut novel it really sets an amazing tone for the start of a great series. Congratulations to Ashleigh Bello for taking me on an adventure with this book that I will never forget!! I've already picked up my copy of the book and I'm thoroughly looking forward to the next installment.

Loved this one. Harley Quinn is my favorite "villain" and it was nice to see more of her origins and greatest hits. Definitely worth the read if you are a Harley Quinn fan, or want to learn more about her!

This series cracks me up every time. It's so outrageously funny. But excuse me? Where was PLUM?? She wasn't in this whole volume... not happy about that!

Yay! Plum is back. Gosh I missed her.... but sadly this one wasn't as exciting as the last volume. Oh well. I still enjoyed it!
