Rating this one by itself because separate from the tandem read it would’ve taken a lot out of me to get through this. I would’ve eventually but honestly didn’t like it as much as Empire of Storms. It’s still a great read and IMPORTANT TO THE PLOT LINE!!! THIS IS YOUR SIGN TO GO TANDEM READ RIGHT NOW!!

⭐️THIS IS YOUR SIGN TO DO THE TANDEM READ⭐️

Tandem reading this one and Tower of Dawn was amazing and such an amazing decision. So glad I did it. They truly are at the same time period and line up very well!

Ending was predictable in some ways. FMC made loads of poor decisions and irritated me. She was annoying.

EASY 5 ⭐️ READ!!!

⚠️T/W for mental illness, abuse sexual/emotional/financial/physical, death, cancer, vomiting, anorexia, drug use, alcoholism, relationships (parental/significant others)⚠️

As someone who also struggles (or has struggled) with above T/W and healed from most of them myself and continue to heal, this book was hard to digest at some parts. So please take caution.

I know some are mad at Jennett for speaking so harshly about her experiences and believe it should have been “toned down”. But I’m glad she was harsh. I related to that anger, grief, and bitterness. Others do too. The title says it all.

Her narration of her memoir is perfect. She does talk fast so I don’t recommend speeding up the audiobook. The audiobook was phenomenal. I loved hearing the emotion in her voice relating all the memories and even her inner monologue moments. It didn’t feel like she was reading her memoir to me. It felt like we were on the phone and she was talking to me. Friend to friend. Survivor to survivor.

⭐️I’m writing this as I’m 10% into book 2⭐️
I only give this book a 3.75 because it’s not for everyone. It’s not even for every fantasy reader. It has a slow start. There is no romance, besides possibly a total of 2 pages put together throughout the whole book. It is highly political fantasy mixed with adventure and outstanding world building. (This goes for book 2 as well so far).

I’ve tried on many separate occasions to read this book because other love this series so much. I finally decided to give it another try, but as an audiobook. IT CHANGED EVERYTHING!!

This story is meant to be told, not read. It brought the characters to life and really dragged me in and made me want to pay attention to the story unfolding. I would’ve DNFed again if I tried print or ebook another time.

This is a book meant for fans of LotR, GoT, maybe even Harry Potter.
