If I had to describe this book in a few words, it would be a cross between The Greatest Showman and Alice in Wonderland. It was magical, but also an illusion. You really do need to remember that it’s only a game. I loved Scarlett and Julian so much!! Their relationship and storyline were amazing, except for how they first met, iykyk. This was definitely my favorite of the series!!

This was amazing!!! I loved finally getting to read about Hannah and Toby! I’d have to say their short story was my favorite, but I still loved Avery and Jameson’s, and Xander’s, and Libby and Nash’s, and just everybody’s. It was a nice pick me up after that ending in The Grandest Game and we got to read from some different POVs that we didn’t get to in the original series.

I loved coming back to The Inheritance Games world! I miss Avery, Jameson, and Xander though. They are in this, they just aren’t the focus anymore. We do finally meet the mysterious phone girl back from The Brothers Hawthorne, and this ends on a very interesting cliffhanger so again we have to wait until Glorious Rivals, but it will be so worth it.

Isla is in her Rep Era and I am here for it. I’m still going strong on Team Grim. I’m sorry, but Oro just seems like he would’ve been fit better as a best friend (though it’s far past that point now). I can’t wait for the Grim and Oro book, I need it to feed my hopes (that better not be delusions) that Isla and Grim are endgame.

This was a fun twist on a historical event. While I usually don’t like the idea of adding modern day things into a historical period, this book already takes a mystical approach, so it was a fun exception. Highly recommend if you want to read a comedic, romantic, historical fantasy.

This book had an interesting storyline, but the pace felt really slow and the time skips felt sudden and out of place.

Unfortunately, this book wasn’t for me. I really liked the concept of a “real” person traveling into a fictional world, but I just didn’t like the way it was carried out.

(I will forever recommend The Seven Year Slip by this author though!)

I. Do. Not. Like. Unreliable. Narrators.

I get that it’s meant to give the plot twist in thrillers, but it doesn’t make sense. Whether the book is being narrated in first or third POV, you are reading the character’s thoughts. It’s one thing to do time skips, but do not tell me that the MC is thinking in their mind about who could have done it and trying to solve the case and having thoughts as if they had nothing to do with the crime. Just no, no, and no.

(I’m sorry for so many negative reviews in a row, but I’m trying to catch up on reviews and I had a really bad reading streak (for the most part) for a while.)

This was the only book in the series that I relatively liked. I felt that the writing structure was better and it was nice reading about other characters that weren’t in/talking about the “love triangle” or the whole mess that was happening throughout the other books.

Same feelings as the rest of the series.
