3.75 - The writing is okay but it was a very interesting premise!
You can totally read it as a standalone but I'm planning on continuing.

This dystopian book was definitely terrifying. Simply because it was very realistic. It's not difficult to imagine how close to reality it could be to live in this post-war, misogynistic, highly religious society.

The pacing was incredibly slow (especially for the first half) and it wasn't a "fun" read but this book will leave you thinking!

Clearly I'm a heartless biatch for not loving this book nor crying. I was honestly more sorry for August's sister..
It's not this book's fault because it's meant for kids but not everything in life ends happily. The ending just felt forced. Why would he suddenly be happy to win a pity price because it's clearly what it was. Again it's a kid book more meant to teach them empathy but it just felt flat for me!

It’s been a while since I read a book in a day!

I actually ended up enjoy this way more than I expected! It was a quick fun read with some serious topics mixed in there. The female character can definitely be seen as a manic pixie girl but it still worked for me. Also I enjoyed the short stories that were included throughout the book.
Worth the read!

Short sci-fi mystery story from Brandon Sanderson... what else could you want?
A great palate cleanser in between other big books I've been reading. I always like his ideas and I appreciate what he did here.
A good read!

I know this is a well loved classic and I definitely enjoyed some parts... but some times I found myself a bit bored :S

3.5? 4?

For the positive, I love the magic system, the world, and the overall story.
For the negative, the love story was a bit too sickly sweet for me and the writing was not good.

I will continue the series!

This was an amazing book and completely understand why everyone has been raving about it!

It will make you laugh with all the Harry Potter references, cry with all the horrible things that happen and will bring us all closer in our hate for Hailey (kidding... kinda :P)

4.5?
